About The Program

This intensive and challenging twenty-one-day training course (189 hours) is designed to prepare students to serve as Designated Defensive Marksmen (DDM) in support of protective operations, critical infrastructure security, special events, and other high-threat environments requiring precision long-range engagement capabilities.

The course develops the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to effectively employ precision rifle systems while integrating with security teams to identify, assess, and mitigate potential threats. Students learn to rapidly and accurately engage targets from at extended distances with a high first-round hit probability from both conventional and unconventional firing positions.

Training focuses on three critical functional areas: precision shooting, observation and target detection, and tactical employment. Students develop advanced marksmanship skills, including known and unknown distance engagements, moving target engagements, rapid follow-up shot techniques, and positional shooting. The program also provides comprehensive instruction in target detection, range estimation, ballistics, environmental effects on projectile performance, and methods for compensating for changing conditions.

In addition to precision rifle employment, students learn to analyze terrain, select and occupy effective firing positions, integrate counter-sniper considerations into operational planning, and support team leaders through threat assessment and vulnerability identification. Emphasis is placed on observation, situational awareness, and the ability to provide accurate and timely information under operational stress.

This highly interactive course combines classroom instruction, practical exercises, and extensive live-fire training to replicate realistic operational environments. Students are introduced to digital planning and situational awareness tools, including ATAK, and learn to leverage technology to enhance mission planning, communication, and operational effectiveness.

Upon successful completion of the course, graduates will possess the skills required to detect, identify, track, and engage potential threats while providing precision over-watch, intelligence collection, and tactical support to security operations in dynamic environments.

Civilians with no criminal record are eligible to enroll in this long-range marksman’s program.*
